Monday 21 October 2013
ZIM DANCEHALL NA VACHIKEPE
“God is not a fool and I do not do free style”
By VaChikepe: The Poet and VaChingebetter: VaChingenani
Zim dancehall has taken over the streets of Zimbabwe especially the urban ghettos. It has become an expectation for the ghetto youths and they have been given a reason to look forward for tomorrow. Amongst the Zim dnancehall artists is Soul Jah Love (SJL) who has taken the dancehall scene to an outer range dancehall fever.
Being born on the 24th of November 1989 SJL has managed to understand his name and to understand his mission in times like this. Soul Musaka says his friends used love him so much because he was said to be full of Jah Love. Now he easily identifies his name in Shona as
“Mweya WaMwari Une Rudo”
Sometimes he calls himself…
“Rudo RwaMwari Rwakava pamweya wangu”
Suburbs like Mbare, Fio, Glen View and Bhagdhadhi are some of the places that are full of love that Soul has managed to love and understand. Mhofu primary school, Prospect primary school and Lord Marlvin are some of the schools that have seen this young talented man growing up, whilst shaping his meditation. Mentioning Grade 2 at Mhofu primary means the beginning of his musical carrier in percussion band, school senior choir and at church Methodist Hwisiri.
Soul Jah Love was born with a twin brother who unfortunately passed on at the age of 15. He is also sugar diabetic for 17 years, being on comma 12 times and admitted in hospitals for more than 26 times. This has not made him to lose hope in God, but this has strengthened his faith, ability, mission and vision towards reaching his destiny. Soul Jah Love says he belives in God, prays everywhere, loves everyone but is not afraid of anyone.
“My wish is to live to learn and learn to live” says Soul Jah Love. He wishes to teach the youths about the different aspects of life and to give them original and practical solutions from his life experience. Soul Jah Love also wishes to see everyone loving the next person. Soul Jah Love is looking forward to have his own Studio and even in the future having his own radio station. Soul Jah Love says he first falls in love with his own music before he releases it. He goes on to say that…
“Music comforts me and makes me happy”
This Soul man goes on to say that he loves this country so much and he wishes to see Zimbabwean flag flying up high on all corners of this world and beyond. Lovely has a new song that was recorded at the Chill Spot studios by levels and Fantan called “Ndongosumudza musoro” This riddim was launched on the 9th of October this year. On this riddim he says he had written the song long back, but was only waiting for the correct and perfect beat. He goes on to say that the riddim inspired him to expound in the realms of beautiful musical spheres. Was he not asked about the times that he writes the music? Only to be answered in these words…
“I used to write, but now It’s coming from the Most High…God is not a fool, thus I do not do free style but I download from the heavenly places.”
On the song “Ndongosimudza musoro”, Soul emphasizes that what we want is always surrounding us, it only takes us taking an advancing step. For eample, he says
“Ndikangosimudza musoro handishaye wanguwo angandidewo”
Soul Jah Love finishes the interview session by downloading three songs. One entitled “Empowerment”, “Rambai muchinyora VaChikepe” and another one the untitled version of Soul Jah Love.
This has been one of the crazy days in Zimbabwe, whereby naturality and reality is combined together in the realms of wave of success. Zim dancehall to the world is the ghetto anthem and coming from ghetto has become an inspiration refreshing peoples understanding. Most of these artists are identified with drugs, lack of inspiration, not logical and being too loud. If only one would give him or herself time to understand. One consensus understanding would bring progress, empowerment and development. Because one thing for a fact is Zim dancehall has come to stay. How will be the Zim Dancehall in 2016? Has to everyone’s motivation of understanding the beauty of this art.
Respect Soul Jah Love, Changara and Mbare me say…..according to
